Event Notes
Note (1) The IGI gives a 1796 birth date for Mary Ann Couldwell but also a burial date
8 years later.  Father is given as Joseph Couldwell.  This cannot be the same
Mary Ann Couldwell as we know she survived and was married twice.
Note (2) There are 2 Edward Laycocks in the GRO index -- Wortley 1839 June qtr Volume
22 Page 701 and Ecclesfield 1838 Sep qtr Volume 22 Page 181.  The IGI index
gives the 1838 baptism as 24/09/1838 in "Silkstone" but this event was
registered in Ecclesfield.  The more likely event is the 1839 entry in the GRO
index, registered in Wortley.  The 1841 Census shows Edward living with parents
Joseph Laycock and Mary Ann in "Holly Moor".  This is taken to be Hollin Moor,
Thurgoland which is in the Wortley Parish.

Identified in the 1861 census living with Joseph Laycock and his wife Ann
(Denton).  Edward is aged 23 and described as "son" of Joseph Laycock.  He is
obviously son of the first marriage to Mary Ann Couldwell.
